June 26th, 2017
In order to raise money for Bolton Lads and Girls Club, from 26th June to 2nd July 2017 we will be climbing through 12 Italian passes. Having rode the first two mountains, Passo Stelvio awaits you. From here, the stunning vistas encountered turn into nothing short of what is described as the most beautiful passes on our planet. To encounter these riches, we will be challenging you to the toughest single days cycling you will have ever encountered. Arising in the very early morning mists you will climb this day 20,000 feet over 150 miles…as the Sella Ronda Ring awaits taking in Passo Gardena Valley, Passo Compolongo, Passo Pordoi complete with its 33 switchbacks and Passo Sello itself. You will ascend many more great Italian passes before reaching Monte Zoncolan and heading to Venice.
125 Years ago some pretty switched on cookies came up with a wonderful idea to create a club for all the disadvantaged boys of the town of Bolton, fast forward to the present and we have probably the best youth centre in the country and along the way saw sense and let the girls join in the fun as well. The model works brilliantly but has one small but significant flaw, the kids of the outlaying areas struggle to take advantage of the club because of difficult travel and expense reasons. Hub & Spoke is creating a network of satellite centres in the suburbs and a transport system to ferry the kids in, we need your help in developing this programme. The ‘Out of this World’ 2015 French Alps Cycle Challenge raised £30,000 toward the first satellite centre. Help us reach more vulnerable children. So get on yer bikes and head for Italy 2017!
If you want to be involved, it’s easy! Just by pledging your support to the rider of your choice you will already become a very key part of the team. And remember, you are not funding the challenge itself as each team member is paying his own way to be there – so all the money you pledge will go directly to where it is needed most. Thanks for the support!
